Hitting

:: Curveball Flip Toss

Objective

Practice reading the pitch and adjusting the hitters swing to an offspeed pitch.

Setup

Hitter will stand in front of a screen or net in a hitter's stance. A coach or player will hold two baseballs and kneel in front of the hitter.

Procedure
1. Tosser will hold a ball in both their right and left hands.
2.

Tosser will lower their hand closest to the net first followed by the hand farthest from the net.

3.

If the tosser wants to throw a fastball the hand closest to the net will throw the ball to the hitter.

4. To hit a curveball the tosser will fake the front hand and toss the ball in the second hand.
5. The hitter will have to stride to hit the first ball(Fastball) and keep their hands back for the second ball(curveball).

Coaching Tips

This will take some time to get the timing down, but this drill is extremely efficient in teaching how to make swing adjustments in mid stride.
